    Notes: Photographed at Gatwick in 1966 - One of Finnairs Convair 440s on a charter to London/Gatwick. Delivered in 1957 it was sold in Norway in 1972 then went to the USA, then Peru and finally crashed in the Andes mountains in 1993 while en route to Bolivia

    Crashed.
    Summary: The airframe was written off. This was a ferrying/positioning flight. The accident occurred at near Colquemarca (Peru) while en route. Narrative: Two hours after takeoff from Lima, the crew smelled compass fluid and realised that the magnetic compass had become unreliable. Because of low fog banks the crew were not able to establish their position visually and climbed to FL180 to find the Cordillera Mountain range. When the engines started to backfire, a forced belly landing was made in open countryside...
