    Constructed as a P5M-2.

    May 1956

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Navy with BuNo 135533.

    June 1956

    Transferred to Air Development Squadron 1 (VX-1), NAS Key West, FL.

    Served in several patrol squadrons during its career.

    1962

    Redesignated as SP-5B.

    1965

    Transferred to Navy Patrol Squadron 40 (VP-40), NAS North Island, CA.
    Operated with markings: QE /10

    From 1965 to April 1967

    Base of operations changed.
    Operated in Ko Samui, Thailand; Con Son Islands Da Nang, South Vietnam; and Cam Ranh Bay South Vietnam.

    6 November 1967

    Made last operational flight of a Navy flying boat. Flew over NAS North Island, CA and landed in San Diego Bay.

    8 July 1968

    After restoration, flew from San Diego to NAS Patuxent River, MD for turning over to the Smithsonian National Air Musuem.

    12 July 1968

    To Smithsonian, National Air Museum, Washington, DC.
    For future display in a planned National Armed Forces Museum Park.

    July 1968

    Assigned to NAS Patuxent River, MD for storage.

    14 March 1975

    To Naval Air Systems Command, NAS Patuxent River, MD.

    1977

    To National Naval Aviation Museum, NAS Pensacola, Pensacola, FL.
    Transported from NAS Patuxent River by barge.
