    Constructed as a P-38L-5-LO by Lockheed at Burbank, California, USA.

    Circa 1944

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army Air Force with s/n 44-53023.

    Converted to a P-38M-6-LO by Lockheed at Burbank, California, USA.

    July 1946

    To Martin Wunderlich Salvage.
    Wunderlich purchased WAAs entire Kingman AZ inventory of about 5,000 aircraft. It is possible this was the last Second World War aircraft to be sold out of Kingman.

    Appeared at the National Air Races Cleveland to compete in the SOHIO class, but did not qualify. The primary pilot was Robert Harlow. Did not start in the B Feature race.

    Notes: This P-38M was listed as an entrant in the 1947 Cleveland Air Races. It was entered by Robert J. Harlow of Houston, Texas. The official race results list it as a no show but this photo from the collection of the late Bruce Fraites appears to be at Cleveland.
