    Crashed.
    There was one fatality. The accident occurred at the Columbia Owens Downtown Airport (CUB) Columbia, SC, United States while cruising. The airframe was destroyed. The F4U-4 Corsair was the flight leader of 6 airplanes that were performing fly-bys on runway 13 at approximately 500 to 1000 feet above ground level (AGL). The airplane was participating in a level formation flight in preparation for the Veterans Hospital Fly-By...

    Crashed.
    The accident occurred at the Dekalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) Atlanta, GA, United States while landing. The damage was substantial. According to the pilot, as he approached the airport he was cleared to land. The approach was uneventful and the touchdown was a normal crosswind landing. During the landing roll out he felt a gust of wind, which resulted in the airplane drifting to the right. He applied full left rudder and brakes in an attempt to keep the airplane centered on the runway...

    Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Jim Tobul from Bamberg, SC. Qualified in 12th place with an average speed of 315.989 mph. Raced in Heat 1C. Finished in 4th place with an average speed of 310.267 mph. Raced in Heat 2C. Finished in 6th place with an average speed of 315.426 mph. Raced in Heat 3D. Finished in 6th place with an average speed of 320.37 mph. Raced in the Consolation race. Finished in 5th place with an average speed of 316.431 mph.
