    Raced as #1, named YIPPEE.
    This was nearly a stock airplane with airframe cleanup. The outboard horizontal stabilizer tips were removed and replaced with small fiberglas caps. Competed at the National Air Races Los Angeles in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Darryl Greenamyer. Qualified in 5th place with an average speed of 334.02 mph. Raced in Heat 1. Finished in 3rd place with an average speed of 346.89 mph. Did not start in the Reserve race. Raced in the Trophy race. Finished in 4th place with an average speed of 356.00 mph.

    Raced as #38, named SCATTERBRAIN KID.
    This was a P-38L restored to stock condition with no special racing modifications. Competed at the National Championship Air Races in the Unlimited class. The primary pilot was Revis Sirmon. Qualified in 15th place with an average speed of 296.80 mph. Raced in the Reserve race. Finished in 6th place with an average speed of 298.28 mph.
