    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Navy with BuNo 17248.

    From 1959 to 1959

    To Quantico Air Station.
    Bill Bretton commented (15 April 2014): Was one of 2 R4D-8s here when I was stationed there as an Airborne Radio Operator.

    Crashed.
    Bill Bretton commented (15 April 2014): Coming back from the west coast in 1961, we crash landed at Dyess AFB in Texas, damage to left wing, engine and landing gear.

    Repaired.
    Bill Bretton commented (15 April 2014): She was repaired and flew again a few months later.

    New construction number, 43374, assigned to the airframe.

    Redesignated as C-117D.

    To unknown owner with c/r N1334K (C-117D, 017248).
