    Constructed as a P-80A-1-LO by Lockheed at Burbank, California, USA.

    1945

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Army Air Force with s/n 44-85200.

    1946

    Converted to a XP-80B.
    Converted as prototype for production P-80B. Converted with four.50 cal. Machine guns, and 4000 lbst (5200 lbst with water injection) J33-A-21 engine, reduced fuel capacity to make way for water/alcohol tank. First American-built fighter with ejection seat.

    By September 1946

    Converted to a XP-80R.
    It had a smaller canopy, redesigned air intakes and a shorter wing with an extended leading edge.AaIn addition, the engine was modified, armament removed and replaced by a fuel tank, and all drag-producing openings sealed. (NMUSAF).

    4 September 1946

    Damaged.
    Landing accident due to engine failure, 2 miles west of Burbank, CA Airport.

    19 June 1947

    Set worlds air speed record of 623.738 mph, flown by Col. Albert Boyd. At Muroc Army Air Field, CA.

    1947

    Transferred to Air Training Command.
    Used as advanced trainer.

    18 September 1947

    Taken on Strength/Charge with the United States Air Force with s/n 44-85200.

    Transferred to Griffiss Air Force Base, NY.
    Placed on display.

    October 1954

    Transported by ground. Delivered to United States Air Force Museum, Patterson Field (East Side), Dayton, OH.
