Photos of roadside warbirds and museum collections are most welcome.
Photos of aircraft as they are currently displayed are great, but photos of airframes in previous markings, with past owners or during a restoration are fantastic as well. You can help document the history of airframes with photos!

Notes: Woody Edmondson flew this A-36 Mustang in the 1947 Thompson Trophy race. It would be a disaster for Woody as the engine failed and Woody was forced to make an emergency landing in which he was seriously injured. Of note is the open clamshell doors of the landing gear with the engine running. This was a unique characteristic of the A-36.

Notes: Only one year later in 1947 LeVier and his Lightning had no chance for victory. Cleland and his F2G Corsairs saw to that!

Notes: 1947 saw the first running of the Goodyear Class of racers and the Cosmic Wind racers were a big part of that debut. Little Toni is seen doing an engine run up on the ramp at Cleveland in 1947.

Notes: There would be a total of four F2G Corsairs at Cleveland in 1947. One was flown by Navy test pilot Ron Puckett.

Notes: Paul Penrose was the pilot in 1947 of Ron Freemans Mustang named Wraith. This was the same Mustang flown by Wheaties Welch in the 1946 Thompson Trophy race. Like Welch, Penrose would be a DNF in the 1947 Thompson. The victim of supercharger surging.

    Airframe: Bell P-63C-5-BE Kingcobra, s/n 44-4227 USAAF, c/r N63941
Notes: 1947 would be a mechanical carnage for the Unlimited Class at Cleveland on Labor Day Weekend. The problems started before the races started with planes being lost during practice for qualifying. One of the casualties was this P-63 that was flown by Raymond Eiche. The Lucky Jack was anything but lucky as EIche was forced to abandon the airplane during practice. Eiche survived but the plane was destroyed. A piece of the wreckage now survives at the Liberty Air Museum in Port Clinton, Ohio.

Notes: Jay Demming was the pilot of Cobra II at Cleveland in 1947. Indianapolis car dealer Rollin Stewart purchased the airplane shortly before the races. Jay hoped to be able to buy the airplane by winning the 1947 Thompson Trophy. Photo by Warren Bodie.

Notes: Another photo of Glenn McCarthys Flying Shamrock prior to the start of the 1947 Bendix. The loss of this airplane during the Bendix has certainly added to some of the difficulties historians have faced trying to get the true story of this airplane. Many of the modifications have been misinterpreted over the years.
