Photos of roadside warbirds and museum collections are most welcome. Photos of aircraft as they are currently displayed are great, but photos of airframes in previous markings, with past owners or during a restoration are fantastic as well. You can help document the history of airframes with photos!

Notes: Bob Bailey Studios was used by J.D. Reed to record images of his racing stable in the 1940s. This photo of his P-38 Sky Ranger was taken in 1947 in front of Reeds Hanger in Houston.

Photo Date: In 1947

Date Uploaded: 6 October 2019
Airframe: Lockheed P-38L-5-LO Lightning, s/n 44-53078 USAAF, c/n 422-8333, c/r N504MH
Notes: I wish it was a full view of the airplane but any color from the Post-war era is hard to come by. No question of the color of Tony LeViers P-38 in this photo from the collection of the late Phil Krause. I believe this is 1947.

Notes: Another beautiful image by Harold G. Martin. This time of the P-63 that was to be flown by Raymond Eiche at Cleveland in 1947. Eiche would be forced to bale out during a pre-qualifying test flight.

Notes: Woody Edmondson flew this A-36 Mustang in the 1947 Thompson Trophy race. It would be a disaster for Woody as the engine failed and Woody was forced to make an emergency landing in which he was seriously injured. Of note is the open clamshell doors of the landing gear with the engine running. This was a unique characteristic of the A-36.

Airframe: Lockheed P-38L-5-LO Lightning, s/n 44-53078 USAAF, c/n 422-8333, c/r N504MH
Notes: Only one year later in 1947 LeVier and his Lightning had no chance for victory. Cleland and his F2G Corsairs saw to that!
